How our seeds are growing

We have been watering our seeds every couple of days and sitting them on the window sill to get some  light. We look at the seeds each week and we have noticed in our cups that the seed was splitting and we could see the root starting to grow. Some seeds grew quicker than others. In some of the pictures you can see there is now a root going down and a shoot coming up.We will plant some seeds into  soil  and leave some without soil  and we will see how they grow.

We also put some seeds into a drink bottle and poked holes all around it and changed the water each day . We watched and saw that the seeds start to sprout really quickly. We have learnt that seeds will sprout when they have light and water.

Counting to 5 and making sets to 5

Ollie and Jade are learning to count to 5 and make sets for numbers to 5

Dr Seuss's ABC book- Writing

Today we read Dr Seuss's ABC book as we are having a Dr Seuss day tomorrow at school.
In writing we were learning about  Alliteration .
The children listened to the book being read to them.
We then looked at what alliteration was. As a group we chose an animal that we would see at the zoo. Together we thought of some words that start with the  beginning sound and wrote these down and then as a class we made our sentence. The children paired up and they had a picture of an animal and they wrote down their words and then  with the support of the teacher made up their sentences.

Alliteration happens when words that start with the same sound are used close together in a sentence. The sound is usually a consonant and the words don't have to always be right next to one another.

Calla's alliteration sentence.

Phoebe's alliteration sentence

Science is Fun!

This week we have started on our topic "Science". We have been using mixing and colours to form our experiments. Our first experiment was "Making Water Walk". We used red, blue and yellow food colouring, paper towels and water in cups to demonstrate how the water is absorbed by the tissues and mixes to make new colours. Our second experiment looked at mixing colours by dropping some dish liquid in a bowl of milk that had food colouring in. We talked about friction and how the dish liquid reacted with food colouring. The kids loved seeing the colours whirl and swirl! After these experiments we wrote scientific report to show - what they need and what to do. Great learning Room 4! Here is a video of the milk and food colouring reacting with the dish liquid.

Library time

Reading for enjoyment is a very important part of school life. Students love listening to stories being read to them. The library time is a time for everyone to choose books that they like to read or to take them home for someone to read to them. The students are learning about the different types of books we read, who is an author, an illustrator and  what is the blurb. Ask your children what these all mean.

Here they all are in the library reading or finding books they like.

Welcome back to Term 3

Art

As part of our solar system investigation Room 4 created space artwork. They blended warm and cool colours using crayon, then they covered it with black paint. When it was dry they scratched through the black and created their own solar system . They also added a rocket ship and put themselves up in space.

The Solar System

For the last three weeks Room 4 has been learning about the solar system. The children learnt how to write a simple information report. They had to have a title, 3 facts and a drawing. All the children loved learning about the solar system. For our assembly we  made a video  using   a green screening app called Do Ink.
